Celebrate Pride Month in Dallas
Support and uplift the Dallas LGBTQ+ community at these June events
Get ready to head somewhere over the rainbow in the heart of Dallas. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month occurs each June to commemorate the June 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City that launched an international movement for equality. As one of the friendliest and most welcoming cities to the LGBTQ+ community in the nation, Dallas also boasts the sixth-largest queer community of any American city. Pride Month in Dallas officially kicks off on June 1. Still, the entire month brings a rainbow-hued collection of entertaining and educational experiences for members of the community itself and their devoted allies.
1. Celebrate 40 Years of Dallas Pride at the Pride Festival and Pride Parade
Head to Fair Park on June 1 for the first day of Dallas Pride fun. The Dallas Pride Music Festival, presented by Miller Lite will feature a full day of art, food, merchandise, exhibits, and plenty of musical performances, headlined by CeCe Peniston and beloved drag queens, Aquaria, Morphine, and Lardi B. Celebrate with the whole family at the Family Pride Zone which includes games, entertainment, bounce houses, face painters and more. The Teen Zone is an annual event that aims to create a fun, safe space for LGBTQ+ teens to celebrate their authentic selves.
Return to Fair Park on June 2 sporting your best Pride outfit and cheer on the participants in The Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade that slowly meanders through Fair Park.
2. Let Your Spirit Blossom At Pride In Bloom
Don’t miss the 3rd annual Pride in Bloom on June 8 and 9 at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. The event returns with two full days of music, chef demos and local vendors. All partners are LGBTQ+ owned and operated, so support the community all weekend in the gorgeous gardens of the Dallas Arboretum overlooking White Rock Lake.
3. Experience the Ultimate Juneteenth Unity Weekend Celebration
Dallas Southern Pride celebrates the 2024 Juneteenth Unity Weekend June 13-16 with a series of events, including dance parties, an afternoon pool party, and the crowning of this year’s Mr. and Miss Dallas Southern Pride.
4. Immerse yourself in art and culture at the Pride Block Party in the Dallas Arts District
A night filled with Dallas artists, tasty food, outdoor stages, drag performances, family-friendly activities, and more at their Pride Block Party - June 21 from 6pm to midnight! The museums will host programming in their spaces that features a variety of events, concerts, films, informational tables, and guided Pride-themed tours of museum exhibits. Don’t miss this in-person opportunity to uplift and celebrate Pride at the nation’s largest contiguous urban arts district. Nearby, the recently debuted JW Marriott Dallas Arts District will feature special Pride programming throughout the property and make a great home base for a weekend staycation so you can easily walk to and from the Pride Block Party.
5. Support businesses in the Oak Lawn neighborhood
Grab a bite to eat in Oak Lawn's favorite spots or shop ‘til you drop at the district’s boutique shops. Start the morning right with coffee and everyday brunch at Crickles and Co., sip rainbow-colored cocktails and chow on cheese fries from Roy G's, enjoy burgers with a side of top-notch drag at Hamburger Mary’s Dallas, or get a Chick-full-gAy sandwich or nuggets and listen to live music at Alexandre’s.
Then, you’ll be fueled up for a little shopping at Out of the Closet, Skivvies, Package Dallas, and Outlines Men’s Wear.
Of course, it’s always a Pride celebration the moment you step through the doors at multiple LGBTQ+ bars and clubs along the strip. So get ready to mix, mingle, and make plenty of new friends.
6. Visit the rainbow crosswalks, Pride monument, and crossroads plaque
The Oak Lawn neighborhood boasts multiple rainbow crosswalks with its first installation of rainbow crosswalks at intersections along Oak Lawn Avenue, each ideal for selfies or photos with friends. At the crossroads of the district’s main Oak Lawn stretch and Cedar Springs Road, the Legacy of Love Monument was designed to unite and celebrate the neighborhood’s diversity. It’s particularly lovely to visit at night when it glows in a kaleidescope of colors. Finally, make a point to read the Crossroads Marker outside JR’s Bar & Grill, the first-ever LGBTQ+ Historical Subject Marker in the State of Texas. The towering plaque commemorates the significance of the neighborhood to the local queer community and the city at large.
