Sept. 11 is Ethiopian New Year! Fun fact: unlike the rest of the world, Ethiopia has a unique calendar that considers September the first of the year. The date also marks the approximate end of the rainy season and the start of sunny days ahead – which further explains (among other reasons) why Ethiopians believe the New Year should be celebrated in September.
