Shakespeare Festival of Dallas
The Shakespeare Festival of Dallas was established in the summer of 1971. For almost two decades, the Bandshell at Fair Park served as the summer home for this free outdoor festival. Then in 1989, the Festival moved into a new home ? a newly constructed amphitheater in Samuell-Grand Park ? thanks to a City of Dallas arts initiative led by former Mayor Annette Strauss. Bring a picnic and enjoy this annual outdoor festival honoring the works of William Shakespeare.Several well-known actors have graced the stage at Shakespeare Festival of Dallas. In the early years, it was Sigourney Weaver and Morgan Freeman. Most recently, it was Tony nominee Josie de Guzman and Northern Exposure star Doug Ballard. Shakespeare Festival of Dallas is proud to have provided a creative platform for several of Dallas?s favorite stars: Raphael Parry, Lyn Mathis, Kateri Cale, Dan Day, Katherine Owens and Bruce Dubose, just to name a few.
