Artstillery, Dallas’ pioneering experimental performance arts nonprofit organization, is set to debut its latest production, an immersive, interfaith exploration of resilience and solidarity, beginning January 10, 2024, at Fair Park’s Embarcadero Building. Known for blending artistic expression with social justice, Artstillery’s
latest work continues the legacy of “Welcome Mat”, the 2017 production that brought audiences into a transformative space of prayer, poetry, and storytelling at the Nasher Sculpture Center.
Inspired by “Welcome Mat”, a response to the top migration issues of 2017 including our own national discourse on immigration and religious freedom, this new immersive production is a timely reflection on the challenges and hopes of today’s diverse communities. Through the of individuals from varied backgrounds and faiths, audiences of “Welcome Mat 2 -People 0” will experience a profound convergence of personal narratives, sound meditations,music, puppetry and projection mapping, all within an evocatively designed space.
The performance space within the Embarcadero Building will be transformed into a series of rooms bathed in ambient light, creating an immersive environment that invites the audience to move through individual narratives and shared meditations. Alongside this immersive setting where audience movement and participation are welcome and encouraged, performers will share intimate accounts of the narratives Artstillery collected through interviews, mass media and historical accounts, drawing on real experiences of displacement, resilience, and faith.
