Art Workshop: Print Like Rembrandt
Join us for a one-day exclusive dry point printmaking workshop for adults where you’ll learn how to create Rembrandt-inspired art prints, guided by Terri Thoman, artist and owner of Paper Arts in Deep Ellum. The workshop includes a curator-led private tour of Nature and Artifice: Works on Paper from Dürer to Rembrandt and a catered lunch.
All skill levels are welcome! In this workshop, you will learn about traditional printmaking techniques and create and take home your own prints. Using an intaglio dry point technique, Thoman will teach you how to create a series of prints.
All necessary materials are included. Participants may borrow a DMA studio apron to wear during class; however, because ink can get messy, we recommend planning your outfit accordingly.
This workshop includes a delectable boxed lunch from the DMA Cafe!
This event is for ages 16 and up. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet the Artist
Since the 1970s, Terri Thoman has witnessed the shifting landscape of technology in this field. In her own practice, the processes she chooses to employ include relief, intaglio, and planography, all rooted deep in the history of printmaking. In her work, you can witness the evidence of life, the direct mark of the tools, and the human hand.
Thoman’s artwork reflects the value she holds for the planet; her observations of atmosphere, earth, and water clearly express this passion. In the studio, she strives for sustainability through nontoxic practices: “In my daily routine of life, whether gardening or printmaking, I am responsible for creating my existence.”
There is a whimsical side to Thoman's artwork as she constantly revisits the theme of the Chinese zodiac. Her relief prints range in size from two-inch square engravings up to five-foot-tall woodcuts. Often these larger blocks are printed with road equipment in some parking lots!
As an artist and educator, Thoman has been involved with the community, sharing knowledge, inspiring artists of all ages, and connecting community. Her artwork has been exhibited regionally, nationally, and internationally over a span of four decades.
